Artist Bio
Maureen is a figurative artist who loves to notice the abstract qualities in the seen world around her. Line, form, and colour, together with memory, are the focus of her practice, examining the seen and the unseen. As a multidisciplinary artist, the use of differing methods and materials offer a variety of pathways to explore her concerns. Maureen is compelled by character and atmosphere and she embraces the details, leaving traces and texture under the paint, ink or paper like a memory trail. Drawing is fundamental to her practice. Born and raised on the west coast of Canada, Maureen has spent all her adult life in England. Her work has been shown with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Wells Art Contemporary, and the Royal West of England Academy and is held in private collections in Europe and North America. As an art educator, Maureen runs drawing workshops together with outreach creative programmes for her local community as a director of Park Studios, London. She is an alumni of the City Lit Institute Fine Art Programme and the Heatherley School of Art in London. Her work is featured in publications including Portrait Revolution 2017, Drawing on Dorset 2019, and Portraits for NHS Heroes 2020.
