Artist Bio
"My work is an amalgamation of constructed, deconstructed and reconstructed studio material in a metaxy of 2Dimensional and 3Dimensional forms. The life, death and rebirth of the studio materials are core to my process. This concept of work plays metaphor to my experience growing up in a sectarian and troubled Northern Ireland where my cultural experience is one of disidentification, post-traumatic stress and uncertainty. The recent metaphysical language in my work engages the past and present with external influences such as migration, the increasing precarity and expanding inequality across the globe, to the collapse of governments and the spectre of borders. My work marks the flow of these experiences with empathy and resolve. Each work acts as an incision deep in my psyche where the spectator and I can perhaps meet. For me, painting became a proxy symbolic resource in which poverty, social discontentment, peoples’ disaffiliation from the system, class interests, bigotry division's and political differences found expression. In our current time of dissolving certainties, I am interested in the ability an object has to communicate, express and resist particular events."
