Artist Bio
Louise Butler (b 1982) is a multidisciplinary artist, working primarily in painting, installations and performance, currently living and working between Mayo and Dublin. Receiving her Bachelors in Fine Art in NCAD, Irl, in 2006 and in 2017, Butler earned her MFA in Fine Art in KHiB, Bergen, Norway. Director and curator of the most remote art gallery in Norway, situated on top of the mountain, Galleri Kronborg. Butler has exhibited regularly around Ireland and Norway since 2004. Her artist residency includes Arquetopia Oaxaca, Mexico, Rural Movements, Bollsbyn, Sweden and most recently in Athena Standards Residency, Athens. She was most recently selected in group shows in Open Submission Exhibition, Dunamaise, curated by Robert Armstrong and Utopia/Dystopia in dlr Lexicon. Most recent solo show Deception Island in The Signal Arts Centre, Bray and her past solo shows includes Islands in the sky, Gallery One, Dublin, Finders of Islands in Ballina Arts Centre, Co Mayo, and Journey to Nimbus in Talbot Gallery, Dublin. Butler received the BHK Kunststu denttsstipend 2017 award prize, the award grant Kulturrådet from Arts of Council Norway and Markievicz Gold Medal for Painting.
